Visit with Tante Marijke

We enjoyed my aunt Marijke’s visit so much! I really wish I had taken more pictures of her with the kids and with mom. William and Virginia had so much fun with  her and my mom has been feeling really good for the past two weeks, and so I left the camera behind most days so I could just soak it up and enjoy it. They did come over for dinner last night and I managed to snap a few pictures before they got in the house.

Morning at the Farm

William’s buddy Eli had a birthday party at the Oak Mountain Farm this morning. We were so excited to go. It had been a while since we had been out there. In fact I think the last visit we had out there was William’s 2nd birthday and Virginia was just 3 weeks old!

My little cowboy wanted so badly to ride the horse. He very proudly announced he was going to ride all by himself. When it came time for his turn he backed up and decided he didn’t want to do it. He decided to try again and walked up to the gate and waited his turn. He walked right up to the horse and when the lady lifted him up to put him on the horse this is what happened…

DSC_0040 Poor buddy. He wanted to be able to do it so bad but just couldn’t. I think this is kind of how he feels about walking into school these days. He wants so badly to be able to walk in without being scared but we get to the door and he just falls apart. The party was over at this point so I told him we would try it again soon and we packed up and left. It was a great party and we will definitely be visiting the farm again soon!

Hiking

After our early morning train trip today we decided to take a hike. We have a great trail less than 5 minutes from our house. Ryan and I had hiked it before we were married and were excited to take the kids on it. Virginia loaded up in the backpack and William hiked the whole way on his own!

Down by the station, early in the morning….

My dad called Friday night to let us know that there was going to be a historic steam locomotive leaving from the old terminal station property downtown. We didn’t make it yesterday but we were up bright and early this morning to meet my dad, brother, and niece this morning. We decided not to ride. My dad said it would be much cooler to watch and he was right. It was awesome. We even went back down for the 2:00 departure to show Ryan and Virginia.

The sun was much brighter for the 2:00 departure so my pictures weren’t that great. The kids were also whining (it was in the middle of their naptime).

Virginia did NOT like the noise and held on tight to her Opa and her daddy.

As soon as the train pulled out from the old terminal station we headed over to the 22nd St. viaduct to watch it come towards us. Our sweet friends Celia and Annie joined us to see the train this afternoon.

Weekend at the Lake

We have only made it to the lake a few times this summer so we were more than ready to pack up and head that way last weekend. We fed and bathed the kids, put them in their pajamas and hit the road Friday evening. They did great and we missed the crazy traffic on 280. They went right to bed when we got there but were up bright and early Saturday morning just like if it were Christmas morning!

The water was down some so we had a little beach to play on. William and Virginia LOVED it. William played for hours on the “beach.”

Our friends, the Pates, stopped by Saturday and stayed to play for a while. William and Stella had a great time!

We didn’t get much sleep Saturday night so we packed up pretty early Sunday morning and headed home but it was a great weekend and we hope to get back there soon!
