Lunch at the Zoo

Ryan doesn’t like to sit around at home so at about 10 this morning he was ready to get out and do something. We packed up and headed to Papa’s to drop off his dinner and visit for a minute before heading to the zoo for a quick lunch and a peek at the new Trails of Africa. It was so fun to see Elephants at the Birmingham Zoo again. We only had an hour before nap so it was quick trip but we managed to see both elephants, some giraffes, zebras,  ride a camel, and grab a quick lunch at the new food pavilion.

It was Virginia’s first trip to the zoo. She slept the whole time and never even knew we were there. She will have LOTS more opportunities to see it all!

She’s an eater!

William has never been much of an eater but this little girl is! I pumped some yesterday so we could give Virginia a bottle last night and she did great! She wasn’t thrilled with it but she drank most of it. William never really cared much for bottles which was fine because I don’t really care much for pumping but it will be nice to have a little flexibility now that I have two kiddosSmile

Happy “Birth” day Virginia

So we were a little late in celebrating but some sweet friends brought this precious cake over with an even more delicious dinner and we thought we would light a candle and sing Happy Birthday to Virginia.  She is actually two weeks today and growing like a weed!

Spring has Sprung!

My mom’s tulips are beautiful so we headed over there for a photo shoot. Unfortunately I could only get Virginia to cooperate and even she wasn’t thrilled about it.

Fun-day Sunday!

We really had an all around fun weekend. Here are a few shots from our weekend.

We packed up and headed out to Railroad park on Sunday morning. If you haven’t been  yet I highly recommend going soon. It is absolutely beautiful and so much fun! Of course William’s favorite part was watching the choo choo trains pass by.

After a few visitors and a nap we packed up again and headed out to visit with our Papa and his friend Mrs. Duffey.

We then headed back home to enjoy the beautiful weather for a bit before calling it a night!

(William insisted on wearing his red rain boots with his cute Easter bubble)

I couldn’t think of a title for today’s post-mainly because there really are no words to describe the feeling I get when I see William loving on his baby sister! While most of the time he goes about his own business and doesn’t want much to do with her, we are starting to see little moments where he kisses her, tickles her toes, or just lays down next to her. He even helped me wash her hair the other morning.

Virginia’s First Week

Whew! Virginia is one week old! We have had a great week and we are all adjusting well!

…sleeping soundly in the Nap Nanny

She has taken great naps this week. This girl is “babywising” all on her own during the day. She has the eat/play/sleep pattern pretty much figured out. We will have to work on our nights a bit.

Papa couldn’t wait to come visit! He knew along little Virginia was going to be a girl. He was not surprised one bit! He called as soon as I got home from the hospital and wanted to come and hold sweet Virginia. I think he could have stayed all day!

Of course William needed some time with his Papa too!

…and his O-papa (Opa)

Oma already had a pink blanket knit for us…just in case Smile

Uncle Robbie was out of town when Virginia was born and couldn’t wait to meet his new niece. DSC_0413DSC_0414

Megan needed her time too and of course William wanted in on that too but was careful to not get too close to Virginia. I think he was still trying to figure out who this baby girl was that showed up at his house and why everyone was making such a fuss over her.

Sunday was a beautiful day and we decided to get out and go for a little stroll and play out in the yard for a while.DSC_0449

This was the closest William had gotten to Virginia since we had brought her home…

He really wanted her to take her passy but she was not very interested.

By Tuesday William was ready to get out of the house and was in desperate need of a haircut so we got all dressed up and headed out to see Miss Heather. We then headed over to Oma and Opa’s house for a visit.

I gave Virginia her first sponge bath and washed her hair Tuesday night. I did it on my own and didn’t manage to snap any pictures of it. I guess that’s what happens when you are not the first baby. With William the first bath was quite a production. I’m pretty sure we even have a video of it. Sorry baby girl. You didn’t like it that much anyway Smile

Wednesday we had Virginia’s one week visit to the doctor.

DSC_0498

This baby girl likes to eat and it showed on the scale. She was born at 6 lbs 15 oz and went home from the hospital at 6 lbs. 11 oz. She weighted 7  3.5 at her one week appointment! She is definitely more of an eater than William. I am nursing so I don’t know how many ounces she eats at  a feeding but she eats every 2-3 hours and sometimes in the evening wants to eat every hour! William was like clockwork and only ate every 3 hours. The first couple of nights were hard because she wanted to eat so much and had no interest in sleeping in her bassinet. The last two nights I have only had to get up twice with her which has been nice. She has also had plenty of diapers to go along with all those feedings and she is not a big fan of having her diaper changed! William slept best on his tummy and she sleeps well on her side but does not like to be flat on her back. The pediatrician said everything looked great and we will visit again when she is a month old!

After the doctor we decided to head to the park and have a picnic. (Oma was with us. I wanted to take William along to the doctor and I was not quite ready to do that alone Smile )

William is adjusting well. He has been kissing her goodnight and is always concerned when she cries. Today we even had some tummy time on the floor in his room and read some books. I wish I could capture those moments on camera but I knew I would miss the moment if I had gotten up to get my camera. He is even starting to share my lap with her instead of insisting she get out. We have had a wonderful week with our new baby girl and our family of four!
