Our sweet friends, the Hadens, invited us to come to Atlanta to run walk in a 5k to benefit brain tumor research. We decided to head over early on Friday and stay in a hotel in Downtown Atlanta and then after the race go out to their house and spend Saturday with the Hadens. It was the kids first stay in a hotel and they both LOVED it. William would have been happy to ride in the glass elevator all weekend. Lucky for him we stayed on the top floor. Our room also had an awesome window seat that overlooked Centennial Park. If the elevator had been broken they would have been happy to stay and play in the window. In fact, William even tried to sleep there.

Please notice the bouncy balls all lined up in the picture. That is William’s new favorite toy these days. He doesn’t go anywhere without them and has acquired quite the collection. Since we I wouldn’t let him take his nap in the window and made invited everyone to come with me to for our first trip to Ikea, he decided to find a cozy spot for a nap there….
After a very full afternoon and very little sleep we gave the kids baths, put on their pajamas and went down to the park for a carriage ride.

We had a great tour of downtown. While our driver entertained Ryan and I with stories about the historical buildings, William was busy pointing out every kind of car or truck he could find and Virginia was just squirmy and ready to get home and go to bed. I failed to get a picture of the horse. She was big and both kiddos were a little overwhelmed with her. Earlier in the day, while walking through Centennial Park, we noticed that at the World of Coca Cola they were setting up a very large stage and doing sound checks. We were very curious as to what was going on. Our tour guide/buggy driver told us that Maroon Five and Bon Jovi were doing a private concert for the Microsoft convention. It was already well past the kids’ bedtime but we wanted to sit on the pool deck for a bit and listen to the concert. William and Virginia were enjoying it as much as we were!

We could hear but not see the concert from the pool and the kids really needed to go to bed. We had an early morning ahead of us so we went back up to our room to find we had the best seat in the house and could hear the concert pretty well from our room!

5:45 came very early the next morning, especially considering it was 4:45 central time
But, we got up, got dressed, and headed out to the race!
Here’s our group, The Tumor Terminators!

After resting up some in the hotel and packing up the car we headed out to the Haden’s house.
The Haden’s recently had their den and playroom made over for a show on the DIY network called MegaDens. My kids instantly fell in love with the firetruck playhouse they built.

After hugs good-bye we were back on the road to Birmingham. William asks at least three times a week if we can go on a trip to the hotel.
